Is it time to adjust your gift certificate program?

Use a professional gift certificate template.

Here’s 25 free templates:  http://www.wordtemplatesonline.com/2011/04/free-gift-certificate-templates/

You can edit them using the free application, Open Office.  That’s right…no need to pay the Microsoft tax!

Feature gift certificates on your website and business cards.

Make a page just for gift certificates and describe the program:  minimum purchase, expiration, how to buy, etc.  Don’t wait for customers to ASK if you cell certificates.  Place a brief note on your business cards:  “We sell gift certificates!”

Accept credit cards, and deliver gift certificates instantly via email using PayPal.

PayPal allows you to add a gift certificate “shopping cart” on your website where customers choose their amount ($125 / $150 / $200), enter their credit card, and are instantly emailed their certificate.  You get paid the next day (minus 3%) but don’t have to wait for checks, mail out certificates, etc.

PayPal’s gift certificate program takes about 10 minutes to set up, here:

Offer incentives Nov. 26 – Dec. 24.

This 30 day period is the hottest for gift certificate sales, so include an incentive like $250 worth of service for $200, $150 worth of service for $125, etc.

Don’t forget the expiration date!

365 days from the issuance of the gift certificate is reasonable.
