The worst 25% set the standard for the whole group, unfortunately. The same is true of car dealers...though that may extend to more than 25% of them. There really are some good ones, though. Just have to "audition" them, just as they do us.

It is a shame that car dealers (at least these guys) think that detailers "are not the best caliber of people", and "detailers are not rocket scientists, so they come up with the stupidest stories." Ouch.
While it is true that we are not rocket scientists (and neither are they), it is up to each one of us to project a professional image. How can we do this? First, learn your craft. Make it your goal to be the absolute best detail shop in your area. Offer unbeatable service, and go the extra mile for your customers. Have business cards printed up. Get some t-shirts made, and pass them out. Look professional. If you have been working on a car all day, put on a clean shirt before you go back to the dealership! Keep your shop clean, your shop is really an extension of the dealership.
I have found that pricing is always secondary to doing unbeatable work, and being professional. I do not play the price game. You do not have to either. Some company will always do the job cheaper than you. My experience has proven that dealerships will pay more for services that they can depend on. It is our job to change the image that we project of the detailing and reconditioning industry.
